Triangulum Galaxy
3 million light years from Earth, the Triangulum Galaxy is the third largest member of the our local group of galaxies, which includes the Milky Way, the Andromeda Galaxy and about 44 other smaller galaxies.
Picture at the top was imaged in RGBL (Red, Green, Blue, and Luminance), where as the one just above was imaged with narrow band (Ha, OIII, SII).
The Leo Triplet Galaxies
The Trio in Leo are approximately 300,000 light years from each other. Easy enough to fit into one frame, and close enough to interact with each other. The Hamburger Galaxy (NGC3628) is to the right, M66 top left, and M65 bottom left.
Croped and lighted to show the distorted arms of M66 and the tidal wave comming off of NGC3628. The wispy tidal tail of materal and the distortion are evidence of the interactions of thes Galaxies.
M81 (Bodes) and M82 (Cigar) galxies have been gravitationally involved for the past billion years, and are quite the odd couple.
M81 is a graceful, near perfect spiral galaxy, with a colorful palette.
M82 is a starburst galaxy with intence star formation at its center. Plumes of glowing hydrogen blast out from its central regions.
